It’s Time for Spring Cleaning … Dental Style!
Happy spring, everyone! Okay, it’s only the middle of March and we know the weather still hasn’t fully made up its mind on warmer temperatures, but it’s not face-numbingly cold outside anymore, so we’ll take that as a win! For a lot of people, spring is a chance to celebrate the rebirth of nature, and more practically to tackle the clutter that has built up through the long winter. We couldn’t agree more, but instead of limiting spring cleaning to old clothes in a closet or clutter on a kitchen counter, we think spring cleaning should include your dental habits and the tools you use to take care of your teeth and mouth!
Start with the Ultimate Spring (Dental) Cleaning
What a great way to start off your spring cleaning that a trip to your family dentist for a checkup and cleaning!
Okay, so you’re not as excited about this as we might be …
But really, if you haven’t been to your dentist for a regular checkup recently, book an appointment now and let’s get you back on track! Dr Naqvi and her team of awesome hygienists will scrub, polish and shine your teeth so when you look at your beautiful smile in the mirror it feels like welcome warmth of the first spring sun on your face!
Freshen Up Your Oral Care Toolkit
When was the last time you changed your toothbrush? If you don’t remember specifically, it might be time for a new toothbrush. Last summer we wrote an article about choosing the right toothbrush for your mouth. You can find the full post here, but if you’re looking for the Coles Notes version then choose a new brush with the right bristle hardness, a good head size for your mouth and one that can comfortably reach the back corners of your mouth.
While you’re at it, what other tools do you use to take care of your mouth and could they do with replacing? Does your toothpaste leave your mouth feeling fresh and is your floss a good thickness for the spacing between your teeth? Are you using a tongue scraper or mouthwash, and are they the best options available?
Use spring as a chance to review the tools you use to take care of your mouth and make sure they’re still the best choices available!
So, How Well Are You Brushing Your Teeth?
January 1 may have come and gone, and so too may have any best intentions and New Year’s Resolutions for taking better care of your teeth. We penned an article that dug into New Year’s Resolutions and why they’re so difficult to keep.
Regardless of whether you resolved to a higher standard of dental care or not at the turn of the year, spring is a great time to commit or recommit to taking better care of your mouth. If you haven’t been brushing and flossing at least twice a day, drinking lots of water and avoiding foods that can stain or damage your teeth, use the turn of the season as an opportunity to get started on taking care of your teeth and mouth.
